Milwaukee M18BI0
The strongest fit here for someone already using Milwaukee batteries who wants a dedicated cordless tyre inflator. Starting from scratch? Compare the complete cost with the DeWalt and the self-contained Xiaomi before committing.
A portable inflator makes routine pressure checks more convenient. The useful choice is the one you can power, carry and connect easily—not necessarily the model with the largest maximum-PSI number.
Choose Milwaukee for an existing M18 setup, DeWalt for flexible power and inflatables, or Xiaomi for compact occasional use. These are research-based recommendations, not results from a timed head-to-head test.
Compare the three choices
| Model | Power | Maximum pressure | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Milwaukee M18BI0 | M18 battery; battery and charger extra | 150 PSI | Bulky; full kit costs more |
| DeWalt DCC018N-XJ | 18V XR battery or included 12V lead; optional mains adaptor | 160 PSI | Battery and mains adaptor extra |
| Xiaomi Air Compressor 2 Pro | Built-in battery; USB-C charging | 150 PSI | Battery cannot be quickly swapped |
How we chose
We compared official Australian product information, power options, pressure controls, portability and the cost of a usable setup. We have not measured inflation speed, noise, gauge accuracy or long-term durability ourselves.
This rebuild focuses the original five-product list on three distinct everyday choices. That does not establish that the omitted Ryobi or ARB models are discontinued. Repeated inflation of large off-road tyres remains a different buying task from topping up an everyday car.
Amazon Australia and eBay Australia were checked, but exact purchasable links could not be reliably verified. We therefore use the verified Milwaukee retailer page and official Australian pages for the other models, with the availability limitations stated.
The three inflators in detail
Milwaukee M18BI0

A dedicated cordless tyre tool
The M18BI0 suits a household or workshop already equipped with Milwaukee batteries. Its pressure presets and automatic shut-off make regular top-ups convenient, while the larger body is easier to justify for frequent use than occasional emergencies.
Milwaukee markets it for passenger, light-truck and medium-duty tyres. Its fast top-up claims should not be read as flat-to-full times for every tyre. We have not independently tested that performance.
Strengths
- Automatic pressure control and memory presets.
- Uses batteries an M18 owner may already have.
- Verified exact Australian retail listing.
Drawbacks
- Battery and charger are additional purchases.
- Less convenient to carry than a compact rechargeable unit.
- No vehicle-socket power option listed.
DeWalt DCC018N-XJ

One unit for tyres and camping inflatables
The DeWalt is the more flexible choice when you want both tyre inflation and a high-volume hose for suitable inflatables. It works from an XR battery or its included vehicle power lead; mains use needs a separate adaptor.
A digital preset and automatic shut-off simplify pressure setting. The important purchase distinction is the bare-unit package: do not assume a battery, charger or mains adaptor is included.
Strengths
- Can use vehicle power when a tool battery is unavailable.
- Separate high-volume inflation and deflation functions.
- Digital pressure control and work light.
Drawbacks
- Battery, charger and mains adaptor cost extra.
- Larger than a small emergency inflator.
- Exact live retail stock was not verified.
Xiaomi Air Compressor 2 Pro

Portable Electric Air Compressor 2 Pro
Xiaomi’s full product name is Portable Electric Air Compressor 2 Pro. Its built-in battery avoids buying into a separate tool platform, and the compact body is easier to pack for occasional top-ups.
The official specification lists a 152 × 100 × 63mm body, excluding the air hose, and USB-C charging. Preset modes and automatic shut-off reduce setup effort. Confirm the pressure yourself rather than accepting a preset as the correct value for your vehicle.
Its main limitation is readiness: if the battery is empty, you cannot quickly swap in a charged tool pack. Check charge before travel and follow its storage instructions.
Strengths
- Self-contained rechargeable design.
- Compact body and automatic shut-off.
- Suitable format for occasional car and bicycle use.
Drawbacks
- Not the first choice for repeated large-tyre inflation.
- Requires a charging routine.
- Live checkout price and stock could not be confirmed.
Which type makes sense for you?
| Your situation | Start with | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Already own M18 batteries | Milwaukee M18BI0 | Battery condition, charger and storage space |
| Need vehicle power and camping inflation | DeWalt DCC018N-XJ | Vehicle socket requirements and included accessories |
| Want a small, self-contained unit | Xiaomi Air Compressor 2 Pro | Charging routine and hose reach |
| Regularly reinflate several large 4WD tyres | A dedicated high-flow compressor | Airflow under pressure, duty cycle and complete kit |
Maximum PSI is not an inflation-speed rating
Maximum pressure is a ceiling. It does not tell you how long a compressor will take to add air to your tyre. When assessing speed claims, look for the tyre size, starting pressure, finishing pressure, power source and required cooling pauses.
A small top-up is a different job from filling a deflated tyre. Do not compare one maker’s top-up claim with another’s flat-to-full claim as though they were the same test. Without comparable conditions, a precise speed ranking would be misleading.
Budget for the complete setup
For a tool-only model, add the battery and charger if you do not already own suitable ones. Also consider where you will store them, how you will keep them charged and whether the hose reaches a valve at the top of the wheel without straining it.
For vehicle-powered use, check the inflator’s current requirements against the vehicle manual and socket rating. A physically matching plug is not enough to establish electrical compatibility. For a built-in battery, convenience depends on remembering to recharge it.
Cold tyre pressure: use your vehicle’s number
Use the pressure specified on the vehicle placard or in its handbook, including any different setting for a heavier load. Do not substitute the tyre sidewall’s maximum pressure or a generic number from an inflator preset.
RACQ recommends monthly checks and checks before long journeys, ideally while tyres are cold. Its guidance describes cold tyres as having travelled less than 1.5km. Driving heats tyres and increases the reading.
Check all tyres, including a fitted spare. A separate quality gauge is useful for checking the inflator’s result. Investigate a tyre that repeatedly needs air instead of treating constant topping up as normal maintenance.
A sensible inflation routine
- Read both manuals. Confirm the correct vehicle pressure, inflator power source and operating limits.
- Choose a safe place. Park securely away from traffic. If the location is unsafe, seek roadside help.
- Inspect before inflating. Stop if the tyre or equipment is visibly damaged. A tyre driven flat needs professional assessment.
- Connect securely. Keep the hose clear of strain, moving parts and hot surfaces. Select the correct pressure unit.
- Stay with the unit. A preset does not remove the need to monitor inflation and follow cooling intervals.
- Check the result. Verify pressure, replace the valve cap and allow hot fittings to cool before packing away.
Duty cycle and larger tyres
A duty-cycle rating describes permitted running and cooling periods under specified conditions. Read the actual manual rather than translating a percentage into a universal runtime: load, temperature and test conditions matter.
If your normal task is airing up several large tyres after off-road driving, compare equipment designed for that workload. Check airflow at a stated pressure, hose length, power connection, cooling requirements and whether the kit includes a suitable gauge. A portable everyday inflator should not be assumed suitable merely because its maximum PSI exceeds the road pressure you need.
Frequently asked questions
Can an inflator fix a puncture?
No. It adds air. A leak or damaged tyre may need repair or replacement, and a tyre driven while flat can have damage that is not obvious from outside.
Do I need a 160 PSI model for a normal car?
Choose equipment suitable for the placard pressure and tyre size. A higher maximum pressure alone does not establish better speed, accuracy or value.
Is automatic shut-off enough to trust the final pressure?
It is convenient, but remain beside the unit and verify the result. Make sure the target and units are correct before starting.
Which is best without existing tool batteries?
Xiaomi avoids a separate battery platform. DeWalt offers a vehicle-power option. Compare availability and the full working cost before buying a new cordless-tool system solely for an inflator.
Can I use one for an air mattress?
The DeWalt includes a separate high-volume function. Check the inflatable’s instructions and suitable connection; a high-pressure tyre mode is not a universal substitute for a low-pressure pump.
Should I keep a rechargeable inflator permanently in the car?
Follow its specified storage conditions. Do not assume a parked vehicle stays within those limits. Check the battery before trips and store and charge it as the manufacturer directs.
Our final verdict
The Milwaukee M18BI0 is our pick for existing M18 owners. Its dedicated tyre controls make it a practical addition to that battery system.
Choose the DeWalt DCC018N-XJ when flexible power and high-volume inflation matter more. Choose the Xiaomi Portable Electric Air Compressor 2 Pro when compact, self-contained portability is the priority.
Buy for your actual workload and complete setup cost. For repeated large-tyre reinflation, investigate a suitable high-flow compressor before choosing any compact inflator.
